Community Indoor Tennis Centre Reviews for Tennis Wales and Lawn Tennis Association

As part of our role as facilities consultants for Tennis Wales, we have been asked by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Tennis Wales to participate in a GB series of commissions appraising selected Community Indoor Tennis Centres (CITCs).

The work is involving an options appraisal for the Wrexham Tennis Centre, aimed at safeguarding its future by generating additional revenue streams to improve operational viability as well as a similar review of the Swansea Tennis Centre.

The first phase of the project, focussed on Wrexham, has been completed and included a number of recommendations i.e.:

  • Improvements that would create a more modern, welcoming environment and commercially sustainable and successful Tennis Centre

  • A need to confirm the future GB and Wales business plan for events, providing clarity and a viable vision in respect of the outdoor courts

  • Options to improve and enhance the tennis offer, improving the capacity of the outdoor courts and protecting the indoor courts

  • The need for a 3-year Coach and Player Development plan for the region setting out a future role for the Tennis Centre

  • Proposals for future beneficial partnerships with Wrexham Glyndŵr University

The next steps for this project will include follow-up discussions with the LTA and Tennis Wales, the Tennis Centre Trustees, Wrexham County Borough Council, Wrexham Tennis Club and Wrexham Glyndŵr University.
